Multiples

For this project I started by taking some ready made architectural drawings and use them as a starting off point. The point of the project was to create something using various different medias e.g. painting, drawing, photography, stitching  etc. to begin with I started to cut the drawings up, stick them back together and incorporate paint. I also used masking tape again like in my first project.

Mixed media on paper.

I still had some of my drawings left over so my tutor suggested that I photocopy them, enlarging smaller areas of the drawings and turning them into negatives. I did this and decided to work on the photocopies again with paint but also other media like drawing and even incorporating wax onto the surface of the paper which produced some interesting marks.

These images reminded me of the work of Piet Mondrian and the Stijl art movement mixed together with constructivism and the drawings by Rodchenko.

For the last part of this project I decided to take my photocopies and photocopy them again but this time onto acetate. I took these acetates and projected them against the wall space in my part of the studio. I got the idea from my previous drawing and light project. Once I projected these shadows against the wall I took various photographs.

I really like how these photographs turned out. They remind me of a sort of 3D geometric Franz Kline painting because of the colour of the wall and the fact that the images are monochrome. This isn't just coincidental too, Kline used this process of projecting his own images to discover his now recognised style. Franz Kline is an artist who has had a profound effect on some of my most recent work.
